My brother, Brett loves country music and, he has many songs downloaded on his Ipad. Yesterday, I came across a song called " Tough People Do" by Brett Kissell while I was scrolling through his playlist. The lyrics of the chorus spoke to me.
Yeah the rain's gonna fall on us all.Our heart's gonna break sometimes, but there is no way around it, life is full of mountains your gonna have to climb.
But there ain't no crime in crying.
You just gotta keep on trying.
Just remember that no matter what you're going through, tough times don't last, tough people do.
In my previous blog post, I wrote about how life is roller coaster. It is full of ups, downs, twists and turns that when combined altogether make for one crazy and unexpected ride, but it is worth hanging on because, we never know what is going to be around the next corner. The truth is, there is no way to prepare for the journey ahead. Life doesn't come with an instruction manual. Each one of the challenges that I have encountered throughout my life have made me a stronger person in the sense that having Cerebral Palsy has taught me to always make the best of what life has to offer. Sometimes, it can be difficult to live life with a disability because, there are days where I wish that transform into a different body so that everything could be eaiser, but I have learned that no matter what I am going through there will always be a light at the end of the tunnel. Going through hard times is never easy, but it is even more difficult when we choose to focus on the negative aspects as opposed to taking the time to focus on the positive. A negative attitude can hinder us from enjoying life and living every moment we are given to the fullest because, as hard as life may sometimes, tough times don't last forever. Sooner or later the sun will surface from the clouds once again!
A couple of weekends ago now, my siblings and I had the opportunity to go to the skating rink for the morning to skate with some dear friends of ours. As much as I wished I could put on a pair of skates and hit the ice, I chose to make the best of the morning. I wheeled out on the ice to watch everyone skate. Watching the kids skate gave me great joy because, watching them smile brought a smile to my face. I enjoyed myself because they enjoyed themselves. A day like this one reminded that it is often the little things in life that mean the most. And, the ability to smile makes life so much better.
