Life Doesn't Come With An Instruction Manual.

I have said before that life does not come with an instruction manual and, sometimes, we are left scrambling to put the pieces together. On the bright side, I have become a creative and innovative person as a result, which has come in handy many times. Looking back on my life thus far, I suppose you could say that some of my stories are actually pretty funny. My life has definitely been nothing short of an adventure. I have learned that as long as we are able to laugh at ourselves along the way it makes life much more enjoyable even if you are in the worst perdicament you can possibly think of.

My family and I are constantly cracking jokes at my disability. In fact, my friends and family actually call me " crazy legs"! It doesn't bother me. It actually makes my situation a little easier to deal with.

Tuesday night was no exception. Myself and some friends from work decided that we were going to the new Avengers movie ( which was absolutely fantastic). Once we arrived at the theatre, I decided that I should use the washroom beforehand. In the typical washroom, there is usually a wheelchair accessible stall at the very end. Much to our surprise, there was no wheelchair acessible stall. My boss was fuming with anger as we tried to wiggle into the tiny stall. It was so small, she could not close the door behind me. The reality is that I had encountered situations much like this one and, I couldn't help but laugh. After we were finished in the washroom, my co- worker informed us that there was a wheelchair accessible washroom just down the hall. Sure enough, we walked right past a giant, bright red sign with a wheelchair plastered on the door. We laughed uncontrollably and wondered how on earth we managed to walk past the sign without seeing it.

The reason I decided to share this experience is because even though there was a wheelchair acessible washroom at the theatre, there has been many times where I have gone out in public and I feel as though the world isn't made for people with physically challenges, including myself. Wheelchair acessibility is on my mind whererever I go. It is something that most people tend not to think about because they simply don't need to. I strongly believe that it is important to raise about the challenges that people with disabilities, including myself encounter on a daily basis. I am not shy about sharing my story with others because it ultimately allows individuals to get a sense of what life is like for someone with a different ability. My biggest dream is to one day live in a world that is inclusive for both able- bodied and differently- abled individuals. Over the years we have made tremendous strides, but I do believe we still have a long way to go.
