I am huge believer that everything happens for a reason. I think that one of the biggest challenges that life offers is finding our purpose. Finding your passion is a journey in itself, an emotionally draining journey at that, especially when you do not understand why you are who you are. Why? Is a question I have asked myself only about a gazillion times. This week, I want to share with you my perspective on what it takes to find your passion.
Ask yourself what you are good at. Where do you excel?
This is important, because it is important for us to focus on what we are personally able to do, as opposed to what we cannot do. Even though Cerebral Palsy has created numerous challenges for me personally, but it has also allowed me to make a difference in the lives of others by sharing my story.
Focus on who you are, rather than what you are.
This is one of the most valuable lessons I have learned. The fact that I have a physical disability has not always been easy to accept, and there are times where I still struggle with the reality of my situation. It took me a long time to realize that I am much more than my different abilities, and the misconceptions society has about me. I am, Becca. I am an intelligent, funny, caring, determined and adventurous young woman. Even though Cerebral Palsy is a big part of my life, I refuse to let it define who I am as an individual.
Do what makes YOU happy.
I think that we can all identify with this We are all guilty of doing all that we can, in an effort to make those around us happy. However, when you are constantly trying to make everyone happy, you are no longer living your life. You are living theirs.
In my previous blog post, I wrote about how the government has denied me funding for a roommate companion. As many of you know, I had the opportunity to speak out about this issue in an article done by, The Lethbridge Herald last week. Taking a stand about this particular has given me hope that one day myself and those in similar situations will receive the support they need to live an independent life.
This is your journey. Life is what you make of it!
