I have said many times before that life does not come with a manual containing a detailed set of instructions telling us how to overcome life's challenges.
This week, I played wheelchair basketball for the first time this season with a beautiful soul, who I am so lucky to call one of my best friends. Getting involved in recreational sports like wheelchair basketball and sit skiing has made a significant impact on my life, because it has reminded me that people with different abilities can participate in the same activities as everyone else, despite their challenges. The opportunity to be involved in sports has allowed me to become a more confident person. When I am playing sports, I feel like a bird who has been released from its cage, because it has given me a sense of freedom that I do not get to experience all the time.
There are no limits...
In many ways, wheelchair basketball has way of mimicking this journey we call life. Life can be exhilarating, but sometimes, it can be a bit like bumper cars leaving us to figure out a possible strategy to get around the obstacle or your opponent. Throughout my life, there have many times where I felt as though cerebral palsy was my opponent. Because my body does not always do what I want it to do, I have had to come up with creative ways of doing certain activities that accommodate my needs. Even though some days prove to be more difficult than others, I refuse to let my challenges prevent me from realizing my dreams.
