Powder isn't all it's Cracked up to be!

Have you ever encountered a situation where you initially think: “Oh yeah, this will be a piece of cake. I got this?” That is, until you get going…

For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to experience an authentic powder day out on the mountain. Well, yesterday, I got my wish. And, I can honestly say that I have had my fix and it will suit me just fine if I don’t get to experience another ‘powder’ day for quite some time. Everyone always says that they love skiing in powder. I had this preconceived notion inside my head that skiing in powder would be easy, simply because I initially thought that my sit- ski would glide through the soft and fresh blanket of snow. To my surprise, it turned out to be one of the most, challenging, tiring, yet enjoyable things I have ever done. There were countless times throughout the day where my team had to pick me up out of enormous banks of snow. I kept envisioning myself looking like a pint- size version of the fictional character, the abominable snowman lying in a fetal position.

It's funny how experiences have a way of altering our perspectives, while also reaffirming lessons that we have learned along the way.

Life can be a lot like skiing in powder. It is not all it’s cracked up to be. We are bound to get stuck. We might even fall flat on our faces occasionally. Sometimes shit happens for no apparent reason, but there is one thing that I know for certain. I know that even if we feel like we have absolutely no control over what is happening in our lives, we have control over how we react to our challenges. You have to decide whether you are going to stay on the ground, or get up and keep going until you reach your destination- wherever that may be…

Just remember to have fun along the way. After all, that's what life is all about.
