Lately, I have been thinking a lot about what it means to be a hero. What exactly does it encompass? When I was a kid, I remember thinking that a hero was a strong person who wore a long, cascading cape, and rescued people from burning buildings. A hero does not have to have a cape or save people from terrifying situations. Heroes strive to make the world a better place just by being their authentic selves.

Recently, I was asked by a young man named, Eric Lister if I would be interested in being interviewed for a podcast he created called the Rocky Mountain Heroes series. For those of you who don’t know, Eric Lister is the founder of an initiative called Canada Strong- it’s mission being to drastically improve the health and well-being of Canadians with displays of strength and powerful messages that invoke change. Today, I had the opportunity to be interviewed by Eric for his new series. While I was honored to be asked to share my story and experiences, it made me think about me think about how the hell I have managed to get to where I am now in my life. The people in my life have been instrumental in helping me become the person that I am today. I cannot tell you how many times I have been approached by individuals who think I am quote ‘amazing’ and ‘inspiring’, but let me tell you, these guys are the real heroes. The people who said the right thing at the right time. The people who took the time to offer their support and encouragement. The people who showed me tough love. The people who held my hand when I needed, yet helped me to become as independent as possible. The people who believe in me, even when I can’t find the strength to believe in myself. The people who make me smile. It is because of you guys that I know that I can do anything I set mind to. Because of the heroes in my life, I know that no matter what you go through, there will always be a light at the end of the tunnel.

What can one say to the individuals who have had such a great impact on her life? Thank you seems so small and insignificant, but it is all I’ve got. So, thank you. Thank from the bottom of my heart for being you! I can’t imagine my life without all of you wonderful people.
