I have always loved the outdoors and getting to experience nature in all its beauty. I mean, come on, how could you not love a view as breathtaking and as beautiful as this?
There is something amazing about moments like this. There is nothing like watching the sun rise from behind the back drop of the mountains at five thirty in the morning. It is as if the sky is greeting you saying, “have a great day today.” It’s spiritual. Yesterday, a friend of mine called and asked me if I would be interested in going on an overnight camping trip with him and two other friends. Side note: I have the best friends in the entire world.
As I watched the sun rise from out the car window this morning, I could not help but think about how lucky we are to be surrounded by such gorgeous settings. It reminded me of how big and wide open the world is. There is so much to explore. It made me think about how even though the world is so big, we often forget to approach life with an open mind. Having cerebral palsy means that I do have some physical limitations, but those challenges have motivated me to try everything and make steps towards attempting to shatter those limitations, wherever possible.
However, even though having an open mind about what is possible if you just go for it is important, there is something else that is equally as important. Our personal perspectives about things like; race, gender and religion should be approached with an open mind as well, because they are as wide open as that mountain and its surroundings. We may not agree with the opinions, beliefs, or even the lifestyles of others. That’s okay. Without diversity, the world be a very boring place. The first step to appreciating diversity is to remember to respect others, despite their differences. When we choose to approach life with an open mind, a world of infinite possibilities begins to open up. A world where we try to look for the beauty in things. A world where we refrain from judging a book by it’s cover.
